GREAT WESTERN MALTING LAUNCHES LOW COLOR WHEAT MALT AND CHIT MALT

By Cait Schut

Great Western Malting, the oldest maltster in the Western U.S. and part of the Soufflet Malt family of brands, proudly announces the launch of two brewer-driven products: Low Color Wheat Malt and Chit Malt.

Great Western Malting (GWM), a leading North American malt supplier since 1934, sources its grain from farms across the Pacific Northwest – a region defined by its rich terroir, arid soils, and pristine mountain water – ideal for growing world-class ingredients. This regional advantage, paired with decades of malting expertise, enables GWM to deliver high-quality products tailored to the needs of today’s brewers and distillers.

Crafted with this premium locally sourced grain and shaped by real brewer feedback, these new malts reflect Great Western Malting’s commitment to innovation and performance, with a deep understanding of the brewing community:

Low Color Wheat Malt is officially the lowest color wheat malt in the industry—built for brewers who want maximum body, haze potential, and head retention with minimal color contribution. Perfect for Hefeweizens, American Wheats, or hazy IPAs, this malt delivers a creamy mouthfeel and excellent head retention while keeping your beer bright and vibrant.

Chit Malt provides a cost-effective, domestic solution for boosting foam stability, mouthfeel, and body across a range of beer styles. With minimal modification and high protein content, Chit Malt enhances structure without overcomplicating your grist. As a locally sourced alternative to imported chit malt, it brings consistency and value to brewers looking for cost-effective ingredients.

“These malts are a direct result of real conversations with real brewers.” said Abi Conner, Product Manager at Soufflet Malt. “Our team is always listening, always collaborating, and always pushing to deliver better tools for our customers. These two new products are proof of that. With the support of Soufflet Malt’s global expertise and our local grower network, we’re proud to offer innovative, high-performance malt solutions that reflect both tradition and progress—malt for the modern brewer.”

Both Low Color Wheat Malt and Chit Malt are available now exclusively through Country Malt Group in all distribution centers across North America.

Those attending the Craft Brewers Conference April 29–May 1 in Indianapolis are invited to stop by the Country Malt Group booth #3300 to learn more, grab samples, and taste beers brewed with Low Color Wheat Malt.
