Pink Boots Malt – Brew Day Experience

With one foot in the farming community and the other placed firmly in the craft beverage industry, we’re passionate about empowering women and non-binary individuals across the supply chain; from the barley fields to our malthouses, and from our distribution centers to the taprooms.

We’re thrilled to announce a one-of-a-kind scholarship opportunity for Pink Boots members, designed to immerse participants in the world of brewing, malting, and beyond! This scholarship offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the craft beverage industry, combining hands-on experiences, educational activities, and invaluable networking opportunities, designed to empower women and non-binary individuals in the fermented and alcoholic beverage industry.

Participants will:

  • Tour the Country Malt Group Vancouver, Washington distribution center, and witness an active malt bagging line and daily operations.
  • Explore Great Western Malting, the oldest malting company in the western U.S., tour the malt plant, and visit their Malt Innovation Center, featuring a 150kg micro-malting facility dedicated to new product development.
  • Brew with the Pink Boots Malt on Great Western Malting’s pilot 1-barrel brewing system, where Pink Boots Society founder Teri Fahrendorf used to work.
  • Gain hands-on insights and dive deeper into the malting process, guided by expert maltsters.
  • Visit Oregon Fruit Company in Salem, Oregon to tour their fruit puree processing facility.
  • Engage in educational sensory activities to sharpen skills and enhance brewing expertise.
  • Visit a local cidery to explore the “beyond beer” segment and expand your knowledge of craft beverages.
  • Immerse yourself in Portland’s renowned craft beer scene, home to over 70 breweries, while gaining valuable experience to take your career to the next level.

Networking and Celebrations:

  • Connect with like-minded professionals at a happy hour event hosted with the local Portland Pink Boots chapter.
  • Attend the SheBrew Brewers Brunch in Portland, Oregon, where you’ll meet womxn in the industry from across the Pacific Northwest.
  • Enjoy VIP access to the SheBrew Festival, a celebration that uplifts womxn in the craft beer, cider, and mead world. As a 100% nonprofit event, SheBrew donates all proceeds to The Human Rights Campaign, supporting the fight for equality.
