PODCAST GUESTS
Shyla Sheppard
After nearly a decade of investing in and supporting other entrepreneur’s dreams, Shyla left her position with a social impact investing firm in late 2013 to pursue filling her own niche in the craft beer industry. With a love for craft beer, brewing, entertaining and design, along with the support of her partner, family and friends, she took on the challenge of developing Bow & Arrow from the ground up. As Founder and CEO, Shyla has been responsible for setting the vision for Bow & Arrow and for the nitty gritty details of development and execution of a business plan, financing strategy, securing capital, building a team, contract negotiations, site selection, and design/development of the brewery and two taprooms.
Shyla was born and raised on the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota, where she is a member of the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa & Arikara Nation). She earned her Economics degree from Stanford University and professional background includes nearly a decade of investing and business experience as well as corporate and non-profit board directorships. Shyla enjoys bringing a diverse perspective to the craft beer industry.
Sam Arredondo
Samuel (aka Sam) was born and raised in Burbank, CA. He earned his bachelor of science degree in Biology from Cal State University, Monterey Bay. After college, Sam looked to expand on his biology knowledge and set his sights on the brewing industry in San Diego, where his career spanning the last seven years included working at White Labs and most recently at Harland Brewing. His love of craft beer grew exponentially after completing both the Science of Brewing program at UC San Diego and Business of Craft Beer program at San Diego State University, respectively. Throughout his career Sam has developed a strong creative background, an understanding of beer culture through community, and an appreciation for classic styles (with the occasional wild & whacky ales under his sleeve). While remaining an avid homebrewer, he also enjoys discovering/grooving to new music, exploring the outdoors, as well as making beats on the side (he’s a Hip Hop junkie). If he’s not at the brewery, you’ll find Sam playing pickleball, working out, or enjoying the company of his family and friends.
